Duck, Duck, Goose!
Duck & Goose
Written and Illustrated by: Tad Hills
Schwartz & Wade Books, 2006
36 pages
Picture Book

Duck and Goose first encounter when they both come up on a big, round polka dotted egg. They dislike each other almost immediately because they both want to claim the egg as their own. They act in necessary ways to keep the baby bird safe and to make sure it gets its rest. They decide to sit on the egg to keep it warm until its time for it to hatch. Throughout the days of waiting, Duck and Goose begin to get close and start building a friendship. They sat and they sat and they sat until they felt the baby bird kicking and about to come out. It just happened to be a false warning; a blue bird was kicking the side of the egg to get their attention. The blue bird reveals a truth to them. Was the egg really an egg?

The illustrations in this book are very colorful and have a soft texture to them. They were created by oil paint. The lines are curved and the shapes allow Duck and Goose to appear out in the open and free to move anywhere.

I chose English as my content area and Kindergarten as my grade. I would incorporate this book into my lesson by instructing the students to sequence pictures of events in the order in which they occurred. This would allow students to critically think on what they read.
