Finding Our Way Back Home
Monday, Wednesday, and Every Other Weekend
Written and Illustrated by: Karen Stanton
Feiwel & Friends, 2014
40 pages
Picture Book

Henry Cooper and his dog Pomegranate live in two houses. His parents have gotten divorced and Henry has had to embrace the individual lifestyles his parents now lead.  Henry explains his lively and eventful days at his parent's houses. They visit their mom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other weekend. They visit their dad on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other weekend. But one day, Pomegranate goes missing.  Where did he go? Will he be able to let go of the past life like Henry did and move on?

The illustrations in this book consists of many aspects and materials. The details are made up of acrylic paint, collage on paper using old French math pages, Italian hand-marbled paper scraps, shopping bags, Go Book pages from Japan, antique Parisian wallpaper, tissue paper from a Chinese grocery, pages from old books in French and Spanish, and travel guides and map parts from around the world. By using these techniques, the illustrator depicts vivid colors and imagery.

I chose social studies for my content area and Kindergarten as my grade. I would integrate this book into one of my lessons by handing out calendars to each of the students and allowing them to look through the book and jot down events on the days that they occur. Once they wrote the events from the book down, I would then allow the students to write their own schedules down on the calendar.
